Engaging our leadership, values and humanity

Wednesday 25 March, 2020
by Jodi O'Callaghan, Executive Officer

As people around the world grapple with this extremely challenging time, never has it been more important for individuals to pull together as citizens to make the greatest impact in the face of this unfolding COVID-19 crisis.

Social distancing by working from home means a disparate workforce and a completely new way of working for many of us. Technology is enabling the ‘show to go on’ through digital connectedness with our colleagues, friends and family. We are leveraging video calls like never before, checking in with each other on a regular basis, and most importantly staying connected at a time when human touch and physical presence with others is restricted.  writing on road that says You Got This

Our changing future calls for us to engage not only our leadership but also our values and humanity. The decisions we make today will shape our future, whatever that may be. Today we are not just employees working in financial services, we are also citizens... what will my decision mean for me, my family, my team, my customer, and for the broader community?

As a signatory to The Banking and Financial Services Oath (The BFSO) you recognise the importance of self-reflection in your decision making, something which is now so relevant because circumstances are so foreign.

There is financial uncertainty on both a macro and micro level - now more than ever the industry is being called upon to deliver on its fundamental purpose in the most ethical way.

Like many of you, we at The BFSO are now working remotely. Please reach out if you would like us to convene discussion groups virtually, or have other ideas about how you can support each other, and email us at bfso@ethics.org.au

Stay healthy, stay strong, stay home.
