Our 2020 highlights

2020 has been a year of challenges, but also opportunity!

We saw an increase of almost double the traffic to our website – a reflection of the increased focus on ethics at this unprecedented time and people spending more time online while in lockdown.

In July, four of our Young Ambassadors interviewed the chairs of the regulators, Wayne Byres and James Shipton. This video got a great response from our LinkedIn community.

The current cohort of Young Ambassadors have used these past few months to interview industry leaders for their podcast series: ‘Ethics in financial services’. This is a great series, particularly for young people wanting to get insight and tips from leaders. If you would like to suggest a leader to be interviewed, please send your ideas to me at jodi.ocallaghan@bfso.org

July and October saw us partner with FINSIA to co-host webinars, with BFSO director Cris Parker speaking on the topic of ‘Ethics in Financial Services in Uncertain Times’ . These webinars had a great response with close to maximum attendance.

In August we undertook a renewals campaign to boost signatory numbers and we continue to see growth in the area of new signatories. Please help us raise awareness of ethics in financial services by telling your peers about The BFSO and why its important to you.

Also in August, director Pauline Vamos presented at the MetLife Town Hall gathering, speaking on the topic of ‘Embedding an ethical culture in a new world’. This was well received and generated a number of thought-provoking questions from the MetLife team.

In October we celebrated Global Ethics Day by bringing together the CEO’s of our 100% Committed organisations and making a short video highlighting ethics. It was a great way for these organisations to publicly demonstrate why and how they commit to The BFSO.

The Oath

  • Trust is the foundation of my profession.
  • I will serve all interests in good faith.
  • I will compete with honour.
  • I will pursue my ends with ethical restraint.
  • I will help create a sustainable future.
  • I will help create a more just society.
  • I will speak out against wrongdoing and support others who do the same.
  • I will accept responsibility for my actions.
  • In these and all other matters;
    My word is my bond.
