Research Officer, ACFC

Martin Foo is a research officer at the Australian Centre for Financial Studies (ACFS), a Melbourne-based think tank that produces independent research and thought leadership into issues related to the financial sector. He has written reports on quantitative easing, social impact bonds, the Australian insurance industry, and financial integration in the Asia-Pacific region.

Before joining ACFS, Martin was a policy analyst at the federal Treasury, where he worked on financial sector regulation. He contributed to government policy relating to the implementation of domestic and international financial regulation (e.g. Basel III capital standards), competition in banking, and insurance for floods and terrorism.

In 2015, Martin was a delegate to the inaugural China Australia Millennial Project. In 2014, he was a finalist and joint runner-up for the Financial Services Council (FSC) Deloitte Future Leaders Award program. In 2013, he served as an Australian Youth Ambassador for Development in Ulaanbaatar, providing advice to the Mongolian government on strategies to boost the competitiveness of local small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Martin is excited about the potential for The BFO to re-assert the ethical foundations of an industry that is viewed with suspicion by many in the community and yet remains essential to the functioning of a modern economy.

Martin is a graduate of the University of Sydney, having completed a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and a Bachelor of Commerce.
