It is an incredible opportunity to learn from the past experience of some of the most accomplished minds within our industry. I am only 2 years into my career but I have already learned that ethical decision making is not always black and white, and that the ‘right’ thing to do may not always be clear. One day I am sure I will be in a situation where an ethical dilemma will arise in my work and I want to be as prepared as possible for when that time comes.
It is clear that the banking and finance industry has a long way to go in terms of rebuilding trust within our community, especially after the findings of the Royal Commission. I believe now more than ever it is important for those within the industry to start working towards this, and being part of an organisation such as the BFO is a great first step. It is an honour to represent the BFO and I hope to encourage as many other people as possible to join this community so they can learn about ethics and how it relates to their job, regardless of how senior their position is.
